First thing I do when I get new hardware in my hands is check if its firmware needs updating. Usually nothing is fixed, there are no new features, but sometimes there is a surprise – for example iPod mini got quite some nice new features since I bought it. Once in a while you come across unsupported firmware that gets more from the hardware than original!

But be careful, things can go terribly wrong and it’s scary to look at text like “Upgrading. Do not un-plug or turn off the device or you will create a brick”.

Do you have everything up to date? Some ideas what you could check for an updated firmware:
