I started moving my stuff from one laptop to another and I wasn’t really in the mood for setting everything up again from scratch. So I took a little time and try to migrate my settings. So far I was quite successful. What I did:

  • Microsoft Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard – I was always suspicious of this tool. But it actually did it’s job – move all my Outlook accounts and rules to new machine. I somehow missed any customization of what tool does – I just need to port Outlook settings and didn’t really care about Word. You can really only click next and do everything. Works. Nice.
  • Firefox – I installed Firefox on new machine and copied over whole profile. Got all my settings, favorites and plug-ins. Simple and efficient.
  • FeedDemon – installed, registered, copied over profile and it works.
  • BlogJet – same thing. Didn’t want to search for password to my blogs and they got transfered.

That will be it for tonight, tommorow I’ll migrate Visual Studio and ReSharper settings. Even if I loose those, I ported much of the painful stuff already.
