The new si.blogs list is live at Check it out and tell me what you think, let me know if I messed up anything, if you have any ideas. Basic idea is to make updating si.blogs list a little easier for me and to provide users more information in a compact form.

As of this moment, I have stopped updating the old si.blogs list and the only current is at

So, how it works? There is a process running on my server that scans all the blogs in my database every couple hour or so (I still have to figure out exact schedule). It checks for new posts at active blogs and updates the site accordingly. You will probably notice hits from my server in your stats.

Users can browse the list, get some more information (don't be shy, just click on the  icon!). Sort and filter the blogs as you prefer and bookmark the URL when it is sorted and filtered to you liking (I have some strange names for filters and sorts. Do you have a better idea?) You can also add new blogs by writing the info in a simple form. There are also new instructions for linking to si.blogs. Please update your link to or add the link if you are on the list and don't have a link yet.

This is just a start, I have more ideas that will materialize in the site will get any users. Some features that are on my to-do list for si.blogs:

  • translate whole site to Slovenian language
  • the list of recent posts from all blogs
  • more info about blogs
  • generation of OPML file
  • categorizing and filtering of blogs (personal, technical,...)
  • different statistics (popularity, post counting,...)
  • FAQ

So, what do you think? Let me know!

(Big thanks to for design ideas and hints, and PeterK for debugging and cheering)

Absolutely fantastic. I already submitted two blogs -- something I've been meaning to do for a long time.

It really looks great. Compliments to you and Marko and Peter.

*more info about blogs*

As soon as I find a cure for my own laziness, I'd be happy to help with this. Except properly this time. And in Slovene.

*different statistics (popularity...)*

I can imagine things getting nasty with that... You might know this page ( which tries to rank blogs by their popularity. Their method seems a bit uneven, and for some reason right-wing political blogs score really high. I think it's just one of those things that's hard to do well.

Out of curiousity: what's the cut-off time for blogs being moved from "active" to "dead"? Is there a specific number?

# re: = si.blogs 2.0 5/9/2005 7:57 AM dejan is fantastic!

Thanks to all. I'm really happy you like it.

MM: Thanks for the new blogs. I'll add them a.s.a.p. And thanks for offering help. About statistics... I was just thinking about ranking the sites by number of clicks they get on si.blogs and not pretend it means anything. Let's wait for some clicks first, then I'll see if results are anything remotely meaningful.

MM. The criteria for determining if a blog is dead is very subjective. If it's "black" and has an error (site is down), then it's a nobrainer. If the site is not dead then it's really impossible to be sure. I'll check both the active and the "dead" list periodically. And yes, the resurrection is possible. It happened to "Prelazimo Slovenijo" this weekend. (thanks to BeeBee)

Any suggestions/ideas?

Marjetica, that simple becouse si.blogs list on my blog has been arround for a long time and is brand spanking new. It will take about a week for google to notice it.

I came acrross some sites that list and check blogs. It seems that most of them use 2-3 months criteria for a blog inactivity.

NITLE Blog Census (
"For the purposes of our study, an active weblog is a site that has over 500 bytes of textual content (about a hundred words), and was updated sometime in the last 90 days."

Too colorfull :P and default sorting should be by activity not by order of appearance... Just my thought...

# re: = si.blogs 2.0 5/9/2005 10:07 PM David
PeterK: I agree. 3 months is a sensible period. Will try to enfore.
BigW: There is an option to turn of colorful icons. Default sort order can also be saved. Fast enough? ;)

Also, check out the FAQ #1.
