Update: A newer version is available.

Checks sites for modifications and sends email announcements. It's console application written in C# with full source code included.

Read more about it at site was quite popular when I posted this article, but it looks dead to me now. I'll have to post it here some day.

Excellent article with a neat solution to an ssue that has been bothering me a great deal. I thought it would be pretty cool to have a global alert mechanism in Dotnetnuke 2.x. I'm not sure yet on how to transform and package it as a PA, but would like to give it a shot - would it be OK with you, David (you retain of course the original creator crediting for the module)?
I don't know if you played around with DNN, but if you have any thoughts on the issue I would like to hear them.

Yes, it would be perfectly fine with me. I have never came around to checking DNN out, though.

I would gladly help you.

Regards, David

I know this will work great for static web pages.

Consider a web page which has a search screen. I enter some search critieria and click on Search button and I get a set of results on the results page. Now, I want to find if this results page has changed or not for a given search critieria.
How do I code for this? or Is there a way to it in a simple way other than using a web service of that site which will return me the search results taking search critieria as input (for example, amazon has opened a similar web service).

Please let me know....
My email ID is

Thanks a lot

I can't seem to get the program to send the email. is there a way to speicfy my email server to send it thru?

# re: WebSpy 1.0 1/3/2005 6:42 PM David
No, sorry. Current version only sends email through SMTP server on the same computer. But if know just a little bit of C# you can easily change the servername in the code and recompile the program.

If you don't know how to do that, just drop me a line, I'll do it for you.

I get a lot of questions like that, so it really looks like I'm gonna have to write WebSpy 1.5! Stay tuned if you are interested!

I just posted a version 2.0 that is a little more flexible. Among other things it lets you specify the smtp server address for sending email.

What can be done for dynamic pages? Pages with banners or stock quotes. I have been struggling with this problem and was wondering if you found a solution or a work around.
