Users that actually visit vidmar.net site have probably noticed there has been job board embedded in this site. At first I tested the field with my own version of it, but that was later replace with a professional service Hidden network by Alex Papadimoulis, legendary MVP for MS Paint and author of The Daily WTF.

Finally I (legally) bought some music

I love music. I like listening to many kinds of music so I have tons of it in digital format. All of which is not paid for. I have tons of CDs and M has many too, but it's been a while since I bought CD. I prefer digital formats.

This week couple of major artists (Madonna, NiN, Radiohead, Oasis, Jamiroquai,..) decided to ditch their record labels and go "solo". There is much debate around the web why this is good and that those bands are already filthy reach. But for it is a sing that there is something terribly wrong in music industry and some kind of change is imminent. Hell yeah!

Since iTunes Store is not available in our neck of the woods (where is iTunes EU?!) I had a unique opportunity to legally buy music from a major artists today.

So I proudly purchased In Rainbows from Radiohead and paid 1 GBP for 10 songs.

Listening to the album right now for the first time and is cool. Rather dark, but cool.

Tagging mp3 files

Good software for tagging mp3 file is hard to find. There are lots of choices but I still haven't found a single program that would do everything I need from tagging program. Some are good when comes to editing, others are good when renaming files or parsing filenames and others do good job searching databases like FreeDB.

I mostly use long defunct Media Tagger and have Mp3tag for backup and querying Amazon for tag info. I have tried to use MusicBrainz Picard, but it's just too complicated and slow to process file like that.

But it seems there is a light at the end of the tunnel. On of my favorite web places - Last.fm - is developing tagging service/application. But they need your/our help - the are asking everyone to calculate fingerprints of their music files, where they are tagged or not, they ask to include even badly tagged files.

Just download their app, select your music folder and let it run. It will take +-5 seconds per file so leave your computer running when your not using it and you'll be done. The app even lets you stop and continue later, so you really don't have any good excuse not to contribute.

Oh, your files will not be modified at all, you are just sending fingerprints and metadata so last.fm builds it database before next steps of the project.

SPS of 2MuchBeauty.com told me about incredible web service the other day. AudioScrobbler is everything that you needed to extend your music preferences and then some. It's really amazing service that connects most audio players like WinAmp, Media Player and iTunes to your AudioScrobbler account. It records what you play, builds your charts, charts of your groups and recommends similar music. It's free and fun!

Some might say it's invasion of your privacy, but don't get me started on privacy!

I created siblogs group, so if you decide to use AudioScrobbler and you are on si.blogs list, join the group!

Dynamic Library for WinAmp

Via WinAmp Unlimited I found WinAmp plug-in called Dynamic Library that really optimizes my WinAmp's Media Library experience.

It combines the best of media library features (search, browse, refresh) with cool features of playlists. It support searching and browsing in explorer style, dynamicaly updates it's database and it can expand playlists as virtual folders.

It's soooo much faster and more convenient than using Windows Explorer or Media Library.

Mare, be sure to put it on our music server!

3OM are DJ Elabjer, bass guitarist Dušan Kneževič and guitarist Gašper Piano and they will be presenting their first EP called Codename: Tricky Trigger.

Nobody is really sure how to describe their music, but most commonly they talk about lounge music, world music, etno clubbing, electronic jazz ...)

Mobitel started first Slovenian on-line music shop. It's a start, but I'm not impressed at all.

Some of the shortcomings:

totally MS-centric - you need Windows, Internet Explorer and Media Player so Firefox or iPod aren't supported
poor selection - although they say they have 900.000 songs, my searches for U2, Eminem, Pearl Jam returned exactly 0 hits
who's behind all that? - why Mobitel and who the hell are OD2? OK, they say OD2 is second biggest but I never heard about them...
boring design

I don't see myself using zabavaj.se, but I sure hope that others would. Maybe that would convince Apple to make iTunes Slovenia! ;)
