Watch EURO 2008 live for free on your computer

We all know football has low WAF. Having kids around doesn’t help either. So having a live stream on computer helps in this situations. Luckily, these days free TV is easy to find.

Start by going to some P2PTV portal like MyP2P.eu or WorldTvPc and search for live sports. Try to find a TV station with high bitrate, high rating and in language you understand.

Then, figure out which P2P video application you need. Most popular are TVU, TVants (translated) and SopCast. Download and enjoy!

Good choice for Euro 2008 is TVants and Croatian public TV station HRT.

All is not perfect, tough:

be sure to connect well before you plan to start watching as it can take several minutes before you get enough connections (this can be fixed on Vista and XP),
stream is also delayed for couple of seconds to half a minute,
I don’t know about other programs, but TVants has a band of Chinese ads on top and bottom of video window, but it’s not annoying,
picture will hand from time to time, and occasionally freeze, try reconnecting if it gets bad.

Warning: this is ~~probably~~ illegal, so it’s your responsibility if you step on someone toes.

I just learned this phrase, and it's EXACTLY what Slovenian basketball team did in 1/4 finals of European Basketball Champs 2007. And then again. Or, as my friend would say, they did "like a cow, that just gave 30 liters of milk and then kicked a milk bucket".

I have to stop following sports, or I'll kick a bucket before I'm 40.

Another thing I learned tonight: It seems like kicking a bucket is not the same a kicking a bucket after milking.

Mini Transat 2007

It's happening again. Mini Transat 6.5 is about to start this Sunday. Andraž and Kristian are representing Slovenia and this time they are aiming for the top.

I'm quite proud that I did quite a bit of sailing with the guys before they turned pro. And their site is hosted at my server which makes me some kind of a sponsor, I guess.

So, thumbs up, boys!

Top Gear - Polar Challenge Special

I don't care a lot about cars. But I love to watch Top Gear from BBC. Season 10 should start sometime this summer, but to make waiting easier, be sure to check out latest Top Gear Special.

This time crazy guys raced to (magnetic) North Pole. Jeremy and James sat in heavily modified Toyota Hilux and tried to drive where nobody drove before. Richard used dog powered sled.

The camera is, like always with Top Gear, superb.

I received a email today, asking me when I'm going to get serious... Well, never I guess, but that's not a point.

I was rightfully accused of not being serious by a strange, since TVvSPOREDnik marked Croatian parliament session as "sport".

World Cup software

World Cup temperature is rising. I’m not in the real mood yet, but it starting to get really hot.

Without even looking I came access two Microsoft software title to help you satisfy your needs for news and stats.

First is Microsoft Football / Soccer Scoreboard. A free download from Microsoft that includes schedules, results stats and RSS news . It and looks alround nice. This just might be a keeper!

PeterK sent me a link to a SharePoint web part. Tam Tam WK 2006 is somwaht similar to abouve, but with extra twist. It can run a betting pool! Now that would be fun!

I haven’t tried it since I don’t have SharePoint portal around, so if you will install this baby, let me know how it works! You can even invite to the pool if your portal is public.

By some unexplainable coincidence I watched two new videocasts/vodcasts/vidcast. There couldn’t be further away than they are, but both are quite cool and worth looking at.

My favorite podcast guru Carl Franklin started dnrTV few days ago. I didn’t want to watch it online so I had to wait for downloads to become available. They are available only as torrents but I don’t mind that. I use µTorrent which is really simple, lightweight torrent client and it works great. But I can see it is a problem for those who download their content at work since there is no admin that will one a port for you in order to download torrents. Although dnrTV is 100% legal BitTorrent has too much bad reputation.

51times.tv is new Slovenian vidcast made by Dulc and Mare. I know Mare personally so when he started talking about 51times.tv on his blog I knew it’s going to be cool. It’s available in couple of formats and download rates are excellent by any standard. I have to ask them what hosting plan the chose…

Back to dnrTV, it’s video version on DNR, while you here Carl (and Miguel in episodes 1 and 2) talking you can watch the guests screen while he’s coding. Although this might sound like a good idea, I always though podcasts were cool since I cool fill my otherwise unproductive time while driving with something cool. It beats reading because it doesn’t require 100% attention. And reading is cool since you can scan the blog (or article of anykind) and by that fastforward it. But I’m not sure about the vidcast. It’s just too time consuming for me. I can’t sit still and watch it but if I try to do anything while watching it I keep missing the important parts. Any fast-forwarding isn’t even an option. So I seriously doubt I will become dnrTV regular.

Vidcast by 51times.tv is somewhat different. It’s cool, it’s fast. So you probably guessed it had nothing to do with computers, right? It’s a snow boarding show! Try not to watch it while sitting in foggy Ljubljana behind a computer, you could develop some serious jealousy! I know I did. If you know someone who could sponsor those two enthusiasts, drop them an email. I’m subscribed and wating for the next episode…

Update: I was talking about BitTorrents reputation being bad in send paragraphs, not dnrTV's of course.

Back from La Rochelle

I know I promised some photos from the start of Transat 2005. But since I'm not a big fan of "Here are my 560 pictures of my vacation. I'll show you more after you see these" philosophy here are highlights.

Andraž and Kristijan are currently on Lanzarote. They came 23rd and 30th which is very good. If they can continue in this pace they will be smiling in Bahia.

PS: I was not able to take any good pictures of the start, the second picture is (publish with permission) by GregorS. I hope he starts blogging soon so I can link to him.

It's show time - Transat is about to start

I wrote about Kristijan and Ažo before. Both are going to start on Transat 6.50 regatta on Saturday the 17th at 17:17 hours. It's a 4250 miles long race over the Atlantic with 72 skippers on 6.5 meter long sailing racers. Solo. The event will be covered very well, so you'll be able to follow the competition on official page with current positions map, a blog and many more sites across the web.

The 4ocean Transat blog is also up, so now would be a good time to subscribe. The blog and the page still need some work but it'll have to wait for couple more days, since we are all going on a road trip to La Rochelle in France to witness the start and to wish all skippers good luck.
