Computer works fine now. Miss my Photoshop 7 though.

(In Vista) go to Start, start typing 'cmd' in the search box, when it appears right-click on it and choose 'Run as administrator'. then try typing the string again. You have to do this even if you are logged in as an Admin.

it works for the dll but it is still impossible to install the adobe creative suite CS3. the installation program starts and ends after a few seconds. I sommetimes get the message that another installation is running and should be completed before a new one can be launched. When looking at the config panel, their is always an installation/disintallation line for CS3 that cannot be removed.

Many thanks for this solution...thanks also to Mozza...but no thanks to Adobe for not including it on their support page.
For those who might need a little more detailed help on this...follow Mozzas instructions up to "Run as administrator", when black window appears copy & paste regsvr32 JScript.DLL into the command line, close the window & go to wherever you d/loaded the folder which contains the extracted Adobe files, double click on "Setup" & it should instal from there.

Oh god thanks soooo much! I was getting really pissed off with not being able to install. I was getting really frustrated. Just in case anyone misunderstood:
1: Click on the 'start' logo.
2: Click start search and look up 'run'
3: Click on the first result
4: Type in regsvr32 JScript.DLL and hit ok
5: ignore the error message and run the setup

Before installing in Vista Ultimate X64
Click Start in bottom left
Search for cmd
Right click and run as administrator
type or copy and paste
cd C:\Windows\SysWow64
then copy and paste
regsvr32 jscript.dll
then copy and paste
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

now you can install Photoshop CS3 by double clicking on setup

i tried, somehow it's still not working for me. after I did all the above, and trying to install it, it still shows me the message "The Installer Database is corrupt. No problems installing CS3 on a newly refreshed version of Vista.

However, on an "used" version of Vista I was unable to install, until I tried the regsvr32 jscript.dll trick - thanks for the tip :-)

Note - no other programmes e.g. Explorer were running during the CS3 installation.

The trick also works for Dreamweaver too ;-)

Ok, seriously, wtf?

I've done the regsvr32 jscript thing, it says it's successful, I go to the setup, click it, then it says it's initializing and the green progress bar goes all the way across, then the window disappears AND NOTHING HAPPENS like it did before.

I swear to god I've done this like 50 thousand times. I even went into task manager and ended Iexplorer.exe and STILL nothing.

NOTHING IS WORKING. Is it because I'm on Vista Home Premium or what? I have done EVERY single thing that has been said to do in this topic and nothing is working and I'm getting very irritated.

Some help would be SO great right now. >(

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. Bought PS CS3 and just can't get it to load. I get the Progress Bar and then the setup initialization screen splashes for a moment and disappears. I have tried everything suggested (eg Flash uninstallers, CS3CleanScript etc) save for formatting my HD which I really don't want to do. I am angry and frustrated that Adobe don't seem to be helping especially after so many have spent so much on a product that is fundamentaly flawed. I've gone to CMD as admin and put in regsvr32 JScript.DLL
I then get a message to say that the DLL was sucsessful however when I then go to run setup for Photoshop I have exactly the same problem, ie setup will run for ~2 secs then close with no explination.

If anyone has any ideas pls post as I'm studying design at Uni and really need to be able to run CS3 on my PC.

OK here is the solution that I found elsewhere that worked for me:

1. Simply create a new user account with administrative privileges (this is very important if installing a cracked version)

2. Install Photoshop (if you have a good copy of the program you should have no problems)

3. You can then run and enjoy Photoshop on your original user account (at least I could, depending on how your computer is set up you may only be able to run it on the new account)

Really hope this helps, no idea what the problem was probably something stupid with vista. Also this same solution worked for installing Illustrator.

What is wrong with you? Do you think someone is going to come to your house and do it? Do you think that I am waiting here until you have an issue with your computer? You are truly worthless to me dead or alive. Shut your mouth so people with common sense don’t have to skip over your stupid posts looking for one that has good info. This is not a petition and when we reach 400 help me posts everyone’s computer will magically work.

Having said that here is the issue now:
Issue with internet explorer not being closed
==============================
You have a service or some process that is using IE even though you cannot see it. You have to right click on your task bar and end the process that is using it. We do not know what you are running on your computer so you have to find it. If you can't then you may have to hire someone to do it or just start ending processes until it works. End of story for you, stop talking in here because there is nothing more we can do for you other than tell you to redo 1st-4th grades.

Installer just stops
==============================
Go to start
go to accessories
hold down shift and right click on cmd
click run as administrator
In the black window type: regsvr32 vbscript.dll
hit enter
Now type this in the black window: regsvr32 jscript.dll
hit enter
double click setup.exe

Now, there are still people who are left over where the installer just stops. You are in the same boat as me. Registering the dll libraries with the system does not work, ending all processes which IE uses does not work and we are looking for a solution.

If one of the above methods did not work for you because start was not there on your taskbar because your blind or you cannot find cmd then read above and try every method on every post above this one. OK now listen up,

My English isn't that good, so I hope ya'll can understand what i'm trynna say.

I think I found the solution for our little problem here.

First you do what you've been tryin for ages:P

- You go to start
- Go to accessories
- Right click on cmd (commandprompt)
- click run as administrator
- In the black window type: regsvr32 vbscript.dll
- hit enter
- Now type this in the black window: regsvr32 jscript.dll
- hit enter

but now comes the tricky part.
- Go to your computer.
- Open the Photoshop CS3 cd file.
- Copy and paste every file in it to your harddisk.

Ones that is done take the cd out.
And double click "setup.exe"

If everything works correct this should do the trick!

Anyhow it worked for me, i tried the regsvr32 vbscript.dll, regsvr32 jscript.dll, thing.
But my laptop gave me a message; "Please insert the Photoshop CS3 cd."
But now i've done the things I told you to do it works proparly.

I hope you can do something with my advice.

Oh Yeah, I have a Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bits.

i'm with Brent, in as much as:

The setup.exe/installer runs in the task manager (processes) but does nothing. i've ran cs3 clean up, registry cleaner, deleted flash and any adobe progs using revo uninstaller set at MAX, i've tried running in administator, and xp comaptibility? (out of desperation), i have rebooted in safe mode and tried installing, i have set up a 'REAL' adminstrator account and tried installing.

I'm out of ideas. The thing is - photoshop cs3 worked till last week. then i had 'catasrophic failure' i tried system restore to no avail. then flash cs3 no longer worked. and the i tried all of the above.

I have vista home premium on a dell inspiron 6400 2G RAM.

any ideas anyone?

Ok so I've read this whole thread and there is one underlying similarity: EVERYONE with Win VISTA (specifically 32bit version) trying to open a downloaded Free Trial of CS3 cannont open it even with the regsvr32 JScript.DLL option.

It makes me wonder whether the 'good' folks at Adobe inserted some sort of bug to halt the Trial Version from opening so that people can buy the real Version.

One question though is this happening just for the Photoshop CS3 Extended version or the regular version too? That's the only thing I have not done is tried doing it with Photoshop CS3 as opposed to Photoshop CS3 Extended Vers.

PLEASE SOMEONE FIX THIS.

I have an HP Pavilion dv5 3GB AMD Laptop and CS3 was the sole reason I purchased it.

I think those read thro' all these threads but still failed to install is overlook a point: when select "command prompt" in asscessories, we need to right click command prompt then select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR! EVEN YOU HAVE ALREADY LOG IN AS ADMINISTRATOR. otherwise, you can only receive error message when type regsvr32 jscript.dll.
TRY IT!

delete the following files;
c:/program files/common files/adobe/backup/caps.db
c:/program files/common files/adobe/caps/caps.db
Now, you can install any of adobe cs3 software without getting an error.

I tried everything I have found out on the net to resolve this problem. Tried regsvr32, tried right-click--> run as administrator, tried burning to cd then running setup.exe, etc. Nothing worked. I am using Windows Vista Business Ultimate. What finally worked (although Photoshop 7 is acting a little bizarre - at least I got it installed and can go from there):

1) Run Windows Vista in "Safe Mode": Choose Start-->Restart. As windows reboots, hold down the "F8" key. You will be prompted to start in different modes. Choose "start in safe mode". For more information on how to start Vista in safe mode, see this: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/323ef48f-7b93-4079-a48a-5c58eec904a11033.mspx

2) Navigate to your Photoshop 7 setup directory. Right click and select "run as administrator". All ran appropriately from here.

I have read all the comments and the error message I am getting when I try to install Photoshop CS3 Extended with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit is:

"Critical errors were found in setup
- Session has dependencies that cannot be satisfied
Please see the Setup log file for details."

I have checked that log file but I cannot understand anything from there, it is not even english.

I am running the setup using a compatible mode as Windows XP service pack 2 and using administrator privileges.

This error pops up even before the agreement shows up.
I have installed Illustrator CS3 and After Effects CS3 with no issues but Photoshop CS3 Extended is driving me nuts.

Could you please give me a hand on this.
I tried to register those dll's from previous comments but it did not work, obviously because I am using a 32-bit version of Vista Ultimate.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

I've installed Photoshop CS3 on my PC running Vista edition familal premium.
It start, open but stay in a status "not responding"
My config is a AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core 2.2Ghz with 3G Ram.
I've also installed other CS3 products. When I start one of these, the process start but it'all ! Nothing appears on the screen.
Any ideas?

I have this exact same issue on a quad phenom. CS3 installs perfectly, but it will NOT START. the application loads and then sits in "not responding" until its terminated manually.

Other CS3 suite applications only start as processes, no actual application window is ever rendered.

This is driving me insane and any suggestions much appreciated.

So far we have tried (and failed) with
(1) DLL registration tricks
(2) installation into a location other than Program File (X86)

I had no luck until I tried MNK's solution (reboot in safe mode).
I had tried all of the regsvr32 tricks and I had copied the complete installation CD to the hard drive. When I launched setup.exe it would do nothing. The process was visible from task manager, but it wouldn't do anything.

THEN... at MNK's suggestion I rebooted in safe mode and the install worked! Then I rebooted in regular mode and Photoshop launched without problems.

Now, MNK said that photoshop was acting "bizarre." I haven't noticed anything yet, but then again, it hasn't been very long.

BTW - I have Windows Vista Home and Photoshop 6.0 (I know - old). Original CD w/ serial number.

i did exactly what Mozza said, go to "start" and type in cmd under "start search", when the result(s) listed, right click cmd and "Run as administrator". Type in "regsvr32 jscript.dll" and after that launch .exe and voila! it will start in no time, and no more error message which i used to get before.

I recently bought a HP Pavilion Elite desktop with 8Gb RAM, decent graphics card and Vista-64 bit pre-installed, of course. I found that my Adobe Creative Suite 3 will not run... same problem as the one mentioned here, the applications are not responding. I had spent days looking for a solution and tried all kinds of things. I tried downloading the Adobe Updater, installed and re-installed. In the process I even tried to downgrade to XP Professional and also Windows 2000 (which totally trashed my system and I need to send for the hard core recovery disks from HP). I then tried to create a dual-boot system without much success.

Finally my patience and persistence was rewarded. I came across a posting somewhere on the web that correctly identified the problem to be corrupt licensing procedures when Creative Suite 3 is installed on Vista 64-bit. The solution is available as a program from Adobe website. Download that program and run it on your computer. The programs were hanging because it was trying to trigger the licensing process for new installs and got stuck. With the licensing program fix, you can now enter your licensing code and the programs will launch as they should.

Well I've tried everything on here and everything on adobe's "help" site. done the dll thing, the safe mode thing, deleting files, admin, even bought a proper copy of PSE 7.0 and the same thing every time...

Just as installation is nearing completion and the shotcut icon appears on my desktop, it decides to roll back installation and de-install itself. Finally leaves me with a nice little message that "the wizard was interrupted before elements could be completely installed"

4 days of re-trying and adobe are about as much help as bugger all.

HELP PLEASE SOMEONE!

I installed and re-installed Adobe on different machines and I have seen that problem you describe. Usually it has to do with you installing probably a trial version of an Adobe product and eventually removing it from your computer. Problem is, despite using Windows uninstall (from Control Panel), Windows did not exactly clean out all the files. So when you try to install a fresh copy, the install gets stuck and rolled back (I blame it on Adobe's stupidity since I've been having all kinds of install issues with Adobe product especially Acrobat which refuses to go away without a fight). So go look under your Program files... make sure you delete the Adobe folder, and also look at Common folder (also in Program Files folder) and in it you'll see another Adobe folder snucked in there. Delete all those remnant files and then try installing again. That technique has worked for me in the past and I hope it works for you too. Good luck...

I just got my HP notebook back from repair and they set everything back to 'factory settings'...I just tried to install Photoshop 5.5, Illustrator 9, and SONY Vegas Movie studio and my disc drive just keeps spinning around and making a grinding noise. 1] Install Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from

[2] Run the CS3Clean script from

Select the [undocumented] level 4 cleanup. This removes ALL Adobe
applications.
[3] Turn on User Account Control - may not be necessary, but it is for Adobe

[4] Copy the Adobe CS3 folder to your HD, right-click Setup and select Run

here is solution.

Click Start > Run > Cmd > taskkill /F /IM iexplore.exe

note that there is spacing on the left of / symbol.

After 2 days of trying to install cs3 on vista i finaly got it...yippee
1. Turn off the User account control. (UAC)
Go to Start Menu > Control panel > User Accounts > Turn user account on/off.
Restart if you like or do it later
2.turn off all the apps you can down next to the clock
(right click and then exit )
3.turn off anti virus
4.turn off firewall
then install cs3 ...no probs...then turn everything back on and run photoshop....

I got the Installer database corrupt error message trying to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended Trial version on Windows Vista 64-bit. I tried the clean up script, I tried the Windows Installer clean up tool, I tried regsvr32 JScript.dll, I looked for, but did not find a CAPS folder to delete. Nothing worked. I even tried a System Restore to before I installed any Adobe programs. The solution was: I found a caps.db file in the Adobe Acrobat Backup folder. I deleted that file and it worked. Thanks much, this worked for me.

For the computer illiterate like me(it took me a while to figure out what they are talking about too) here is exactly what you need to do:

1. Click start and type in 'run' into the search box(without the ' ')
2. Right click the RUN application and click 'run as administrator'
3. In the command prompt, type in 'regsvr32 JScript.DLL' and press enter.
(You should have had a comfirmation message stating that something succeeded, if you did not you may have done something incorrectly)
4. Run the photoshop install as you did before, the installer should run properly now.

Alrighty, so I have a question for you smarties

I installed the CS3 suite no my computer, but when I go to run Photoshop it STARTS... but then it stops working at the "Building TWAIN menus" part of the loading screen.

Now, the other components of the suite work perfectly fine (Flash, Acrobat, etc.).... just not Photoshop.

Any ideas?

Alrighty folks, lets see if you can help me.

I have a Gateway laptop(notebook?) computer that runs on Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 1. I got my computer about two years ago. Now, I installed CS3 about a year ago and it worked perfectly until a few months ago.

Now, it won't even begin to load. There is no loading screen, and the first thing that pops up says:
"Photoshop.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

It never notifies me with a solution. Now remember everyone; It worked perfectly a few months ago, and no longer works now. And I'm pretty sure it's just my computer too. Uploaded it around the same time on my sister's computer which is a Dell that runs on Windows XP and it is still going strong.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY COMPUTER?!!!!!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, and I recently got a tablet for Christmas.

I was so thrilled because I'm a digital artist... until I discovered the photoshop program that I got [Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0] DOES NOT work on my computer. I uninstalled and searched the program for hours and came up empty handed..

The error prompt it gives me when I go to edit pictures is "Photoshop Editor has encountered an error, it has closed and will contact you when Windows finds a solution."

I am also trying to upload Photoshop CS3 Extended to My windows vista 32bit. I have all the system requirements...have edited the java script and even re downloaded the service pack 2. I am downloading it from the disc but it goes through the process and then at the end it says it was unable to download but no error message...any clue what might be going on??

ere's how I solved my problem:

right click photoshop shortcut, on "compatibility" enable windows xp sp3 compatibility, and check "run as administrator"

most likely, the "run as administrator" check is enough..
