Last week it was announced that SHA-0 and maybe MD5 collission was found, the story is still evolving.

MD5 is a hash alogrithm that is very widely used, even I use it in WebSpy. This doesn't mean MD5 is useless now, but its fascinating someone was able to pull this off. Sam Ruby of Intertwingly has explained it very nicely.
